Welcome to OLYAA
OLYAA Gallery is based in North Bergen, NJ, founded in 2021 by Annie Kim. The gallery showcases contemporary works that join cultural traditions with modern paradigms. In addition to our resident artist Youngsup Han, the gallery features emerging and established talents from around the world.

Artist Youngsup Han's expansive pieces reflect on how we may perceive the natural world as well Earth. Seemingly small elements such as grass, soil, pebbles, and water have existed throughout time and are oftentimes hastily overlooked by our modern, fast paced society. Multimedia causes overstimulation and in a way pollutes our senses, encouraging exhaustion and mental fatigue. The life within nature and throughout the universe, however, does not comply with human speediness, but rather, it blooms and flourishes slowly and in its own time. As such, Youngsup Han deliberately showcases the magnificent beauty and awe inspired by nature in his work.

While his work from the 1980s focused on light and sound, his work throughout the 2000s further expands upon those senses. For instance, his layered pieces may begin with his interpretations of rocks and grass and then include various layers of raging waves, mountains such as Kumgang (Korea), or the dancing wind and illuminating sun. The five senses culminate into sweeping large-scale canvases and provoke audiences to reflect on the divinity within nature. He intentionally creates enormous work to reflect emotions experienced when we are face-to-face with the ocean, mountains, and the extraordinary earth.
